Hanauma Bay was reopened this morning after city lifeguards found only small amounts of Portuguese man-of-war during their early-morning assessment.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city’s Emergency Services Department, said lifeguards found no box jellyfish and only 20 man-of-war.
“However, lifeguards will still be monitoring the situation and are urging the public to check with them before entering the water today,” Cheplic said.
Yesterday, more than 2,000 man-of-war were found on the beach, forcing closure of Hanauma Bay.
In addition, 15 man-of-war were found on Waikiki Beach yesterday morning, and more than 80 people had to be treated for stings by lifeguards.
Today also marks the first day of the monthly box jellyfish influx with the peak of the influx anticipated tomorrow.
Lifeguards are asking beachgoers to check with them before entering waters across Oahu today and throughout the weekend.
