Saturday named Reggae Day in Hawaii by Legislature

This Saturday, August 15, is officially Reggae Day in Hawaii.
Governor Linda Lingle, the Hawaii State Senate, the Hawaii State House of Representatives, the Honolulu Mayor’s Office and the Honolulu City Council recognized the day in recognition of Ziggy Marley’s achievements and community services, in conjunction with his concert appearance at the Waikiki Shell.
Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann has proclaimed August 15 Reggae Day in the City and County of Honolulu, and the State Senate and House of Representatives have also declared it Reggae Day across the state.
In a written statement, the Twenty-Fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii expressed congratulations to Thompson’s Productions and Ziggy Marley for showcasing reggae musical talent in Hawaii and perpetuating the legacy of Ziggy’s father Bob Marley.
Governor Linda Lingle and Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona, Jr. extended their best wishes.
Messages of aloha were also sent from U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka and U.S Senator Daniel Inouye. Senator Inouye said, “Reggae has a unique rhythmic style that transcends geographical origin.”
Thompson’s Productions partnered with Clear Channel Communications and Cox Radio to bring ‘Ziggy Marley Live in Concert’ to the Waikiki Shell, 5-10 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are on sale $35 or $45 ,and can be purchased at the Blaisdell Box Office, online at Ticketmaster.com and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
