DHHL chairman Kane leaving position soon

    By Gordon Y.K. Pang

     • After almost 10 years, Hawaiian homelands suit set for trial today

Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Chairman Micah Kane will be stepping down from his job in the coming weeks, prior to taking a post as a member of the Kamehameha Schools board of trustees Sept. 1.

A date for his resignation has not been set, nor has Gov. Linda Lingle named a successor, according to Lloyd Yonenaka, DHHL spokesman, and Russell Pang, Lingle’s spokesman.
One possible successor could be DHHL Deputy Director Kaulana Park, who has been at that position since last year.
Kane, 40, was appointed the latest Kamehameha trustee last month by state Probate Judge Colleen Hirai. He replaces retired Adm. Robert Kihune, whose term expired at the end of last month.
Kane, a 1987 Kamehameha graduate, was appointed from a list of three candidates. The trustee’s job pays $90,000 annually.
Kane was one of Lingle’s original Cabinet picks when she first took office in late 2002.
