Work on Kahului Boat Ramp resumes Monday

Advertiser Staff

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will begin the second phase of improvements to the Kahului Boat Ramp Monday.

The work will include the construction of a 55-by50-foot-wide aluminum loading dock with fiberglass grating to be built next to the existing concrete loading dock.
The project also will include the removal of the existing asphalt access road fronting the launch ramp, and construction of a new concrete access road and new boat trailer turn-around area. Crews also will install an accessible trailer boat parking stall and washdown area, electrical and lighting improvements, and resurface a paved area next to the existing washdown area.
This is the second phase of improvements that began in 2006 to modernize the boat ramp. The first phase of the DLNR and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project included dredging of the entrance channel and turning basin, demolition of the existing ramp and breakwater, construction of a new breakwater, adding a three-lane boat launch ramp and two loading docks, and other improvements.
The $379,228 project is expected to be completed by Jan. 2.
