Fire damages Chinatown studio apartment

Honolulu firefighters extinguished a fire that resulted in minor damage to a second-floor studio apartment on North Hotel Street this morning. They said later the cause of the fire was undetermined.
The undetermined classification means there was insufficient information to identify any one specific cause. The case is now closed, but could be reopened if new information were discovered.
About 20 firefighters fought the fire. HFD dispatched units at 8:56 a.m. with the first engine arriving at 8:59 a.m. The fire was under control by 9:03 a.m. and extinguished by 9:09 a.m.
Fire began in the sleeping area and caused minor damage to the studio apartment. The fire was confined to the one room. Damage was estimated at $2,000.
There were no injuries and the occupant of the studio apartment was not home at the time of the fire. The Hawaii Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to provide assistance to the occupant.
