Waikiki hula show back to 4 nights a week
Free hula shows are now performed four nights a week at Kuhio Beach with the addition of a Sunday show.
The Waikiki Improvement Association said the shows run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday on the Kuhio Beach hula mound with the support of the city and the Hawai'i Tourism Authority.
"We are very grateful for their support for this program, which is popular with both visitors and kama'aina," said association president Rick Egged.
The show's existence had been threatened by budget cuts and had decreased to three shows a week since January, he said.
Egged said the shows offer only Hawaiian hula with halau from the community providing a variety of styles at the mound near the Duke Kahanamoku statue.
The show also receives support from the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa, he said.
