Man charged in Tuesday night killing of Kailua lawyer

Prosecutors today charged Daniel Kahanaoi with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Kailua man.

Kahanaoi was also charged with first-degree burglary, two firearms counts and with violation of a temporary restraining order.

Bail was set at $1 million.

Kahanaoi is scheduled to make his preliminary appearance in court tomorrow morning.

Kahanaoi is accused to shooting lawyer Craig Kimsel at Kimsel's Oneawa Street home.

Kimsel had been seeking a TRO against Kahanaoi, saying Kahanaoi had struck him.

Police have said Kahanaoi went to Kimsel's house shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night to look for an an acquaintance.

Police said Kimsel asked Kahanaoi to leave, but Kahanaoi refused and then shot Kimsel.

Kimsel, 47, was taken to an area hospital where he died.
