A&E's TV series "The Recovery Project," which deals with drug addictions and recovery, will be filming in Honolulu on May 5.
The series features town hall meetings across the country with addicts, their family and friends, as well as experts who are in the recovery and addiction fields.
A&E, Oceanic Time Warner Cable and The Salvation Army are holding the meeting at Word of Life from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Seating is limited to 1,600 and anyone expecting to attend should arrive by 5:30 p.m.
The concept behind the show is to break the stigma of addiction, raise national awareness that addiction is a treatable disease, and prove that recovery is possible. The meetings, led by a panel of experts, is about open discussions with the audience.
The five-person panel consists of Duane "Dog" Chapman and Beth Chapman of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," Jeff VanVonderen, of A&E's Emmy-nominated "Intervention," Alan Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of Hina Mauka, one of the largest drug and alcohol treatment centers in the state, and Delorese Malulani Gregoire, founding director of Winners Camp.
Mayor Mufi Hannemann is scheduled to give the welcome address.
Word of Life is located at 544 Queen Street.
