Medical examiner says bones left in tree not human
Bones found in a tree trunk in Makiki by city workers last week are not human remains, the city medical examiner office said.
A city work crew discovered the bones about 12:45 p.m. Friday as it cut down a tree on the 1300 block of Wilder Avenue. While inspecting the tree trunk, the workers found more than 20 plastic bags containing bones, police said.
The bones were turned over to the medical examiner, which yesterday determined that they were "non-human bones of no forensic significance."
