The Hawaii Writers Conference is taking reservations for its annual September event, with discounts for those who register before May 15.

Formerly the Maui Writers Conference, the event attracts more than 1,000 authors, screenwriters, journalists, editors and film executives. The conference is now being held on Oahu over Labor Day weekend (Sept. 4-7) at the Royal Hawaiian and Sheraton Waikiki Hotels.

This year featured speakers include Mitch Albom, Ron Powers, Bobby Moresco, Gregory Maguire, Michael Arndt, Diane Ossana, William Bernhardt, Joe Finder, Kristin Hannah, Jacquelyn Mitchard, SARK, Karin Slaughter and James Rollins.

The conference is preceded by the Hawaii Writers Retreat Aug. 28 to Sept. 3 at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach.
