Rainbow Wahine split softball doubleheader with N.M. State

Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu went 3-for-3, including a grand slam, today powering Hawai'i to a 11-3 victory over New Mexico State and a split of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

New Mexico State won the first game, 3-1. The second game ended after the fifth inning because of the league's 8-run mercy rule.

The Rainbow Wahine are 26-22 overall and 12-6 in the WAC. The Aggies are 30-17 and 10-7.

In the second game, Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu's grand slam came in a six-run third inning that give UH a 10-1 lead. Kanani Pu'u-Warren also homered and Tanisha Milca had an RBI single in the inning.

Audrey Andrade hit a solo shot in the fourth inning to give UH its 11-3 lead.

Stephanie Ricketts pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, while striking out one and walking one.

In the first game, Kim Watson shut down the Rainbow Wahine, allowing one hit, a home run by Tanisha Milca, in seven innings. She struck out five and walked four. Vanessa Fitzgerald pitched to two batters in the sixth, allowing a walk and the only other Rainbow Wahine hit, a single by Clare Warwick.

Kandis Jones and Tiffany each had two hits for the Aggies.

Ricketts pitched four innings, allowing seven hits and all three Aggie runs.
