An Air Canada flight was diverted to Honolulu early this morning after 22 people were injured when the flight encountered severe air turbulence about 100 miles southwest of Honolulu.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said three crew members and 19 passengers aboard Air Canada's Flight #34 were injured. The flight was en route from Sydney, Australia, to Vancouver, British Columbia.

The plane touched down at Honolulu International Airport about 1 a.m.

Gregor said that according to initial reports, four of the injured were taken to Honolulu hospitals for treatment of unspecified injuries.
