Kekaha residents urged to attend community benefits meeting

Kauai County officials are encouraging Kekaha residents to attend a series of meetings to discuss the Kekaha Host Community Benefit program.

The program was established last year with an appropriation of $650,000 by the County Council as compensation for the upcoming expansion of the Kekaha Landfill.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 27, from 6 to 9 pm, at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center.

At the request of the West Side community, Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. recently appointed nine Kekaha residents to serve on a citizens advisory committee. They include Jose Bulatao Jr., Myra Elliott,Randall Hee, Robert Jackson, A. "Big Boy" Kupo Jr., Glenn Molander, Evelyn Olores, Bruce Pleas and Walter Stocker.

They will recommend community projects to be funded by the program.
