Hawaii National Parks getting nearly $16 million in stimulus funds

Hawaii National Parks will receive $15,740,000 in stimulus funds from the Department of Interior, U.S. Sens. Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka said today in a news release.
"This funding will create or preserve needed jobs, attract tourists, and help to preserve our precious natural and historical heritage," the senators said in a statement.
"Ranging from Pearl Harbor to the most active volcano in the world, a site of forced exile to an ancient Hawaiian place of refuge, these unique sites attract visitors from around the world while enriching the lives of Hawaii residents. They are worth preserving for the future."
The following parks will receive funding:
— Haleakala National Park (Maui): $1,338,000.
— Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (Hawaii): $7,802,000.
— Kalaupapa National Historical Park (Molokai): $536,000.
— Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park (Hawaii): $20,000.
— Puuhonua o Honaunau (Hawaii): $61,000.
— USS Arizona Memorial (Oahu): $5,983,000.
