Mike Hughes offers his advice on Friday night TV:
TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"PRISON BREAK," 7 AND 8 P.M., FOX
Four years ago, "Prison Break" was a terrific, one-year idea. Michael Scofield schemed to get his wrongly convicted brother, Lincoln Burrows, out of prison.
Then the show needed to keep going. It leaped in bizarre directions.
The good news is that it's finally wrapping up and can focus on the finish. Tonight has a rerun at 8 p.m. and a new episode at 9; next week, the new one is at 8 and "Dollhouse" returns at 9.
The latest crisis came when someone stole Scylla, a device holding the secret information of The Company. At 8 p.m., Michael is captive; The Company says it will give him the medical help he needs -- if Lincoln finds and returns Scylla. That's tough for Linc, who distrusts his ragged crew.
The rerun includes three big shoot-em-ups and some chases. Most are wildly unlikely, but all are well-done.
It also includes some huge twists. If you haven't seen it yet, skip the "Prison Break" paragraph at 9, which spoils some of the plot twists.
TODAY'S MIGHT-SEE
"SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS," EVERY HALF-HOUR UNTIL 5:30 P.M., NICKELODEON
It's a spongy marathon, spotlighting a fun new episode at 5 p.m. A giant wave grabs Bob and his friends; washing them far away.
Mr. Krabs clings to his cash register. Sandy concocts enough inventions to start a civilization. Bob and the others need help from a legendary surfer who speaks only in obscure mini-sentences.
Grown-ups will enjoy the fact that the surfer is voiced by Johnny Depp; they'll also like a "Davy Jones' locker" gag. Then again, kids and grown-ups will enjoy the show's offbeat wit.
