Some 20,000 expected for Tillman tribute run in Arizona

Associated Press

TEMPE, Ariz. — Organizers expect 20,000 runners for the fifth annual Pat's Run, which celebrates the life of Pat Tillman.

Tillman was a star football player at Arizona State and played for the Arizona Cardinals. He quit the Cardinals to join the U.S. Army Rangers after the terrorist attacks on 9-11.

He was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004.

The 4.2-mile run starts Saturday near Sun Devil Stadium and ends on the 42-yard line.

The proceeds go to the Pat Tillman Foundation, which sponsors leadership programs including the Tillman Scholars program at Arizona State, the National Veterans Scholarship Fund and the Collegiate Fund for Social Action.

The event starter will be missing this year. Former Arizona State coach Bruce Snyder died Monday of cancer.
