Gov. Linda Lingle has released $2,981,000 for improvements to women's locker rooms and Les Murakami Stadium at the University of Hawaii-Manoa, Lingle's office said today.
"University of Hawaii infrastructure improvements remain a priority as we work to create a world-class institution for learning, research and athletics," Lingle said in a statement. "These projects will ensure comparable facilities for the women's athletic program and enhance training opportunities for the men's baseball team."
The breakdown:
— Women's locker rooms: $2,595,000 for design and construction of a new locker room for water polo and renovate an existing locker room for the swimming and diving teams at the Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. Additionally, an existing locker room in the Athletics Complex will be renovated.
— Les Murakami Stadium : $386,000 to expand the training room. Located under the spectator seating stands, the current training room is small and inadequate for training purposes. This project will make use of adjacent spaces that are currently underutilized to accommodate an enlarged training room for the baseball team.
