CHARLESTON, S.C. — Venus Williams has lost at the Family Circle Cup, falling to 63rd-ranked Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the third round.
Williams, ranked No. 6, says she made errors at the wrong time in Thursday's match. Williams was playing Lisicki for the first time and credited her German opponent with making some great shots.
Williams won the event in Charleston, S.C., in 2004.
In other matches, American qualifier Melanie Oudin lost to third-seeded Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-1.
