LOS ANGELES — Woody Harrelson is likening a paparazzo he tussled with at a New York airport to one of the undead zombies he battles in his upcoming film.
In a statement released yesterday, Harrelson jokes: "I wrapped a movie called 'Zombieland,' in which I was constantly under assault by zombies, then flew to New York, still very much in character. With my daughter at the airport, I was startled by a paparazzo who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie."
Celebrity gossip site TMZ posted a video Thursday of Harrelson chasing one of its photographers who followed the actor and his 12-year-old daughter through LaGuardia Airport. TMZ said Harrelson, 47, broke the photographer's main camera, and the paparazzo is heard repeatedly accusing Harrelson of assault — while he continued to follow the actor.
Police took a report from the cameraman, who claimed Harrelson pushed a camera into his face.
MCENTIRE GIVES PROPS TO COUNTRY WOMEN
LAS VEGAS — Reba McEntire says the women of country music put on a better show than the men.
In a genre that — until very recently — has been dominated by men, those sound like fighting words. "No, they're truthful," corrected the singer.
"I've watched many, many decades of entertainers. And I will go watch females and be totally entertained. And when I watch the males. I love their singing, and their lights. But when the girls come on, you better know that they've come up with something new and innovative, and they're going to give you a show."
It's been some month for women in country, with Martina McBride scoring last week's No. 1 country album ("Shine"), as well as Carrie Underwood (entertainer of the year) and Taylor Swift (album of the year) taking home the Academy of Country Music's top awards last Sunday.
FARRAH FAWCETT RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL
LOS ANGELES — Farrah Fawcett has been released from an L.A. hospital after treatment for internal bleeding not directly related to her cancer, People.com says.
The 62-year-old actress, who became a star in the "Charlie's Angels" TV series, was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006. She recently had a "minor procedure" in Germany that "led to a small amount of bleeding into a muscle in her abdominal wall," creating a hematoma, a sac of blood that caused pressure and pain, her cancer specialist, Dr. Lawrence Piro, said earlier this week.
FAWCETT'S SON FACING PRISON TIME
LOS ANGELES — On the day his mother left a hospital, the son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal was ordered held without bail while he awaits sentencing on a probation violation.
Redmond O'Neal admitted in court yesterday that he violated his probation on a drug conviction, court records show. O'Neal has been jailed since Sunday, when he was arrested on suspicion of carrying heroin while visiting a jail. A judge yesterday revoked the 24-year-old's bail and set sentencing for next week.
He faces up to three years in prison for the probation violation, and still has a pair of pending drug cases.
