Thai author to deliver interfaith address

Nobel Peace Prize nominee Sulak Sivaraska, initiator of a number of social, humanitarian, ecological and spiritual movements and organizations in Thailand and abroad, and author of more than 100 books in both Thai and English, will deliver the fifth annual Rev. Yoshiaki Fujitani Interfaith Program address next Saturday at Chaminade University.
Sivaraska will speak on "Need and Greed: Buddhist-Christian Social Justice Concerns," from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the university's Mystical Rose Oratory chapel.
Responding to his comments will be David Coleman, Chaminade dean of humanities and fine arts, and professor of religious studies.
Following the speech, Sivaraska will sign copies of his just-released book, "The Wisdom of Sustainability: Buddhist Economics for the 21st Century.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Sivaraska's wide-ranging work includes founding the International Network of Engaged Buddhists, and, in 1995, he received the Right Livelihood Award, "the alternative Nobel Peace Prize."

2 OUTDOOR SERVICES SET FOR EASTER MORNING
Two outdoor Easter morning services are scheduled:

FOOD DRIVE, EASTER EGG HUNT AT MAKIKI PARK
Friends of Makiki Library and Hui O Makiki will have a food drive and Easter egg hunt at 3:30 p.m. April 11 at Makiki Park.
There will be two egg hunts — one for children 1 to 6 years old; a second for children 7 to 12 years old.
Admission is a donation of food to the St. Clement Episcopal Church's Food Pantry.

FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN FOR AITKEN'S HEALTHCARE
Friends and students of Robert Aitken, 91, retired master of the Diamond Sangha, a Zen Buddhist society he founded with his late wife in 1959, have established a fundraising campaign to bolster Aitken's healthcare funds.
A lifetime Hawai'i resident, Aitken was captured on Guam by invading Japanese forces in 1941, and interned in Japan for the duration of World War II, where he was introduced to Zen Buddhism.
He is the author of more than 10 books on Zen Buddhism, including "Miniatures of the Zen Master," celebrated recently at the Palolo Zen Center.

SALVATION ARMY HOLDING EASTER SUNRISE SERVICES
Salvation Army has scheduled 7 a.m. Easter sunrise services at its Kauluwela Corps, 296 Vineyard Blvd.
Easter services will also be held at 10:45 a.m., at Kauluwela Corps; 8 and 11 a.m. at the Kane'ohe Corps, 45-175 Waikalua Road; and 11 a.m. at the Leeward Corps, 98-612 Moanalua Loop, 'Aiea.
