After emerging as an "American Idol" finalist for Season 2, Hawai'i's Jordan Segundo has performed across the Islands and country, and also released the 2005 CD "Jordan." You'll spot him these days offering "American Idol" commentary on the KHON2 morning news on Wednesdays. We asked the 24-year-old crooner, a Kalihi native, about some of his favorite local spots for food and fun, and also found out what he thinks about this year's "Idol" contestants.

Q. What are you up to these days?

A. I'm currently the spokesperson for the State of Hawai'i Storm Water Management Campaign. This campaign informs people about ways to protect our environment and oceans by keeping the storm drains clean. Also, in April and May, I will be participating in the Adult Friends for Youth and D.A.R.E. Tours throughout Hawai'i ... performing and giving inspirational speeches to thousands of students across the state.

Q. When you are not doing nonprofit work, performing or working, where do you like to go unwind with friends?

A. Well, my favorite place to unwind is at home watching a good movie or TV show or on the beach in Kahala with my iPod. But when I'm with friends, a great place I enjoy is First Fridays — Downtown. It's a fun and exciting event with a laid-back atmosphere. You can always expect something different each month. I also enjoy judging the "Al Waterson and You" singing competition on Sunday evenings at Don Ho's Island Grill at the Aloha Tower Marketplace. I really like to encourage aspiring artists to pursue their dreams as a singer.

Q. We hear that you love to put those dancing shoes on; where do you go to boogie and why?

A. It depends! When I'm in the mood for some good house music, I'll go to Lotus Soundbar in Waikiki. The sound in that club is amazing! For local music, I'll check out Mai Tai's.

Q. Having grown up in Kalihi, what's your favorite Kalihi hole-in-the-wall and what do you order?

A. I love to eat at Boulevard Saimin. The food is delicious and the service is fast. I always eat there with my family, and my favorite items on the menu are the combination plate with yakitori chicken and teri pork with fried saimin.

Q. How do you think your life has changed since 'Idol?'

A. "American Idol" was the launching pad for my career as an entertainer. It helped me gain recognition on a local and national level. Since "Idol," I'm very grateful for the wonderful experiences and opportunities to travel and fulfill my dreams of being an entertainer. In addition to pursuing a career in music, I have also been focusing on television hosting and acting.

Q. Who are your favorite contestants on this year's "American Idol," and why?

A. My two favorite contestants this year are Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta. I think they both have really good voices that are very distinct and unique. They're also good performers on stage, and I hope they do well this season.

Q. What do you think of the four "American Idol" judges? What are their strengths and weaknesses?

A. I think the four judges on "American Idol" are doing a great job of giving constructive criticism to the contestants. My favorite judge is Simon Cowell. I think he gives the most honest critique, although, I do think his approach may be a bit rude at times. Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson are both good judges. I think they bring a balance to the panel. I also like the new judge, Kara DioGuardi. In my opinion, she is a combination of Simon and Paula; she is honest and straightforward with a gentle approach.

Q. Why do you think "American Idol" is still going strong after all these years?

A. Everyone enjoys seeing a good competition and with the stakes so high, it makes it exciting to watch.
