MLB: Shoulder injury lands Padres' Floyd on disabled list

Associated Press

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Padres outfielder Cliff Floyd was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder on Monday, retroactive to Sunday.

Outfielder Drew Macias was recalled from Triple-A Portland to fill Floyd's roster spot before the Padres opened the season against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The oft-injured Floyd agreed to a $750,000, one-year deal with the Padres in February to pinch hit and be the designated hitter in road interleague games.

Floyd hit .268 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs last year in 72 starts at designated hitter for Tampa Bay. The 36-year-old slugger was on the postseason roster until a right shoulder injury sidelined him for the final two games of the five-game World Series loss to Philadelphia.

This is the 12th trip to the DL of his major league career.

Macias spent the majority of the 2008 season at Double-A San Antonio. He was a September call-up with the Padres, going 4-for-20 with two homers, five RBIs and two runs scored
