Vercruyssen doubles up in trampoline

Hawai'i's Nani Vercruyssen won two overall grand championships and Ken Goto won one during last week's ninth annual Hawai'i Trampoline Championships at Hawaii Academy.

The event featured 117 participants, including four from Canada and 11 from Japan and ranging from ages 9 to 30 years and from beginners to elites.

The champions of each level joined elites to determine the overall grand champion. Vercruyssen won the trampoline and the double mini-trampoline. Goto won the mini-trampoline. Canada's Vincent Ng won the trampoline.

7-A-SIDE YOUTH RUGBY TOURNEY AT KAPI'OLANI

The fifth annual Adult Friends for Youth Aloha Youth 7-a-side rugby tournament is being held today through Sunday at Kapi'olani Park.

More than 200 youth are expected to participate from the Big Island, Maui, Kapolei, Waipahu, Kalihi, Kahuku, La'ie, Kane'ohe, Radford and Aliamanu.

Games are played with seven-minute halves, with an entire game 14 minutes.

Games will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, with an award ceremony to be held at 1:30 p.m. Hawai'i Polo Club opens season Sunday

THE HAWAI'I POLO CLUB WILL BEGIN ITS SEASON SUNDAY AT MOKULE'IA POLO FIELDS

Games will be held Sundays with the season ending Aug. 16. Gates open at noon and two games will be played beginnng at 2 p.m.

TRIATHLONS ESTABLISHED TO CHALLENGE CEOS

The World Triathlon Corporation, owner of the Ironman and Ironman brands, has announced the launch of the Ironman Executive Challenge, which hopes to provide an Ironman experience for the world's top business leaders.

The program targets top-level executives and provides its members with the opportunity to compete at sold-out 2009 events such as the Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene, Frankfurter Sparkasse Ironman Germany, Ford Ironman Lake Placid, Ford Ironman Louisville and Ford Ironman Arizona and a chance to qualify for the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua, Kona.

To kick off the program's inaugural year, all participating members of Ironman XC will be eligible for the Kona Personal Record (PR) Challenge. One (1) Ford Ironman World Championship slot will be awarded at each event to the athlete who has most significantly improved his or her PR time.
