SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Miss Universe's blog posting about having fun at Guantanamo Bay has vanished from the pageant's Web site as embarrassed officials try to quash what they call a misunderstanding.

A flurry of critical commentary and news stories about Venezuelan beauty queen Dayana Mendoza's lighthearted post underscores that the military prison at Guantanamo remains a damaging symbol for the United States.

In place of her posting yesterday was a statement from the president of the Miss Universe Organization, who said Mendoza and Miss USA Crystle Stewart had gone to Guantanamo on a USO tour to boost the morale of U.S. troops.

'WOLVERINE' FILM ESCAPES INTO WILD ONLINE

LOS ANGELES — "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" isn't due in theaters until next month, but the prequel has already leaked online.

A high-quality, full-length work print of the 20th Century Fox film appeared online Tuesday evening. The studio said it had the file removed, but copies quickly propagated and continue to appear on several file-sharing Web sites.

The movie focuses on the origins of Hugh Jackman's clawed Marvel superhero Wolverine.

'GUIDING LIGHT' FADING AFTER 72 YEARS

NEW YORK — The soap opera "Guiding Light" is switching off after a 72-year run that predates television.

CBS says the show will air its final episode in September. Like most daytime dramas, "Guiding Light" has suffered from declining ratings and CBS is looking for a lower-cost alternative. The Guinness Book of World Records has cited it as the longest-running TV drama.

It began as a 15-minute serial on NBC Radio in January 1937 and premiered on CBS television in 1952, focusing on the Bauer family of Springfield.

KENNEDY CENTER WILL SALUTE BILL COSBY

WASHINGTON — Bill Cosby will receive the nation's top humor prize from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for a prolific career that often focused on race relations and breaking down stereotypes, the center announced yesterday.

The 71-year-old comedian, actor, television producer and author will be honored Oct. 26 with the 12th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

KIDNEY OFFERS POUR IN FOR NATALIE COLE

LOS ANGELES — Natalie Cole's fans want to give her a kidney.

The 59-year-old singer told Larry King on Tuesday that she was diagnosed with kidney failure — and while she was still on his CNN show, dozens of e-mailers offered to be tested as possible donors.

The daughter of Nat King Cole said she was diagnosed with hepatitis C in February 2008. Her kidneys failed after treatment. Without a donor kidney, Cole says, she will be on dialysis for the rest of her life.
