A high surf advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, remains in effect for the east-facing shores of all islands except Lanai.

Surf along the affected shorelines is expected to be 6 to 9 feet today, the weather service said.

The high surf is being generated by strong trade winds over and to the east of the state. The winds are expected to ease tonight and tomorrow, resulting in a gradual decline of the surf.

The advisory will remain in place through 6 p.m. tonight.

Elsewhere on Oahu, look for surf of 4 to 7 feet along north-facing shores; 2 to 4 feet along west-facing shores; and 1 to 3 feet along south-facing shores.

Outlook through Tuesday, April 7: The large, short-period surf occurring along east-facing shores will diminish this weekend, as strong trade winds begin to ease.
