Hawaii flags to be lowered for late ex-lawmaker

Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered state flags to be flown at half-staff Sunday in honor of former state lawmaker George H. Toyofuku.

The Kaua'i Democrat served in the state House from 1965 to 1968 and in the state Senate from 1971 to 1982. He also served on the Kaua'i County Board of Supervisors from 1959 to 1964.

Born May 29, 1930, in Hanapepe, Toyofuku was also a retired owner/manager with Mokihana Insurance Agency.

Survivors include his wife Elsie; sons Guy and Dean, daughters Amy and Lisa, and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission.
