Advertiser Staff

The 2008 Hawai'i Futures Summit aims to bring together a broad cross section of people to look at how to "collectively move ideas energy, and goods in the 21st century" at a conference Oct. 3 and 4 at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa in Kapolei.

Keynote speaker Michael Shellenberger is president of the Breakthrough Institute and co-author of the article "The Death of Environmentalism" with Ted Nordhaus. His new book, "Break Through," which explores a call for an entirely new politics concerning the future and challenges people to move beyond their comfort zone.

Focusing on Hawai'i's 21st century infrastructure, participants will have the chance to work on issues such as re-imagining transportation in Honolulu or moving beyond oil and biofuels to map out cutting-edge energy systems for the state.

The Hawaii Futures Summit is hosted by Vision Foresight Strategy and sponsored by First Insurance Company of Hawaii, Ltd., Enterprise Honolulu and Hokuli'a.

Cost of the conference retreat is $495 including materials and original research, breakfast and lunch for two days, and dinner the evening of Oct. 3. For more information about the summit and to register online, visit www.kikilo.biz/summit/main.htm or call 387-8862.
