EnhanceFitness program expanding on Kauai

Advertiser Staff

Starting next month, seniors 60 and older on Kauai will have the opportunity to participate in the EnhanceFitness program at the Lihu'e and Kilauea neighborhood centers.

"EnhanceFitness is a low impact, strength training program that focuses on balance, strength, endurance, and flexibility. It's designed for both active and frail older adults," said Naomi Sugihara, program specialist with the Agency on Elderly Affairs.

Currently, the program is offered at the Hanapapa multi-purpose room and the Kekaha, Koloa and Waimea neighborhood centers with classes taught by certified fitness instructors.

Master trainer Terri Halliday oversees and supports the instructors to ensure that proper procedures are followed at all sites.

Starting Oct. 6, classes at the Lihue Neighborhood Center will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 1 p.m. to 2 pm. The instructor will be April Raymond.

North shore classes begin Oct. 20, and will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, 7:30 to 8:30 am, at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center. Debbie Lankford will be teaching the class.

Registration is limited to 22 per site.

For more information or to register for a class, please call the Agency on Elderly Affairs at 241-4470.
