Waipahu boxer Brian Viloria will get one last tune-up bout this week before a championship bout in December.

Viloria will face Mexico's Javier Lagos on Thursday at the Sycuan Resort & Casino in El Cajon, Calif.

Viloria is then scheduled to face champion Ulises Solis of Mexico for the IBF light flyweight (108 pounds) world championship on Dec. 13 at Macau, China.

Gary Gittelsohn, Viloria's manager, said Thursday's bout was a last-minute addition so that Viloria would have "a keep-busy fight" before December.

Viloria's last bout was a third-round knockout victory over Fred Heberto Valdez in May.

"The IBF usually doesn't want its fighters to take fights before a championship," Gittelsohn said. "But because the title fight is not until December, that would have been too long a layoff for Brian. So we worked out an agreement where both Brian and Solis will have interim bouts."

Viloria has a professional record of 22-2, including 3-0 in 2008. He already owns a victory over Lagos — a 12-round unanimous decision in 2002.

Lagos is 15-12-2, and has lost his last four bouts.

"It's a kid we're familiar with and the key is that he's durable and should give Brian some rounds," Gittelsohn said. "But in my mind, Lagos is not on the level of Brian. We scheduled this fight with the idea of giving Brian some work."

Thursday's bout is scheduled for 10 rounds, and will be at an agreed weight of 113 pounds. It is not scheduled to be televised, and will not even be the main event of the card.

"We're trying to keep this one under the radar," Gittelsohn said. "We just want to get it done and then focus on December."

Viloria has been preparing at the La Colonia Boxing Club in Oxnard, Calif., under trainer Robert Garcia.

"Brian has really gone back to basics this year," Gittelsohn said. "He's made some dramatic improvements and is in incredible shape."
