21 arrested in Maui immigration raid

HONOKOWAI, Maui — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 21 illegal alien workers yesterday at the Honua Kai construction project.
It was the second time in a month that immigration agents encountered illegal workers at the Honokowai construction site. On Aug. 20, 23 aliens from three countries were arrested, including 13 who worked for subcontractor Global Stone Inc.
Some of the workers picked up yesterday also worked for Global Stone, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The 21 men taken into custody included 12 from Mexico, eight from Brazil and one from Slovakia, the agency said. They are undergoing deportation proceedings.
