The buzz

Here's what some voters had to say as they left polling places yesterday:

"Mufi, I feel he's doing a wonderful job. Also, I'm concerned about traffic congestion and the proposed rail system. I'm sold on rail. And I know he's going to try to make it happen."

Jennifer Grant of Mililani, speaking of incumbent Mayor Mufi Hannemann

"I think Mufi's doing a good job. I disagree with him on rail. And I don't like the way they went about it — shoving it down our throats, quite frankly. But, otherwise, he's doing fine."

Eric Brown of Mililani

"I'm not clear that rail is the most environmentally sound choice for the island."

Ellen Sofio, a physician and Manoa resident, explaining why she voted for Ann Kobayashi

"Maybe somebody who has no background in politics might bring something new."

Cindy Sugimoto of Kailua, who voted for Panos Prevedouros

"I would like to see the mayoral race ended in the first polling. ... Mufi Hannemann might not be the best guy for the job, but he's the guy who's there, and he's doing OK. And I do support rail."

Bruce Mount of Ko Olina

"I voted for Mufi Hannemann. I think we should let people finish their jobs."

Evelyn Rogers of Mililani

"I voted for Panos Prevedouros. I don't know if I'll be able to use the rail, and I'm not so sure that an improved bus system might not do the trick."

Stephen Escher of Makiki

"The traffic is killing the people from 'Ewa Beach, Kapolei, Wai'anae and Waipahu."

Manny Ancheta, 60, a car salesman and radio announcer, on why he voted for Hannemann

"He's the nicest-looking guy on the drive. He's always there. He's just a cool guy."

Rich Taylor, 23, on why he voted for Chris Lee for state representative from Waimanalo, Lanikai. Taylor said he sees Lee waving signs from early in the morning until well after dark
