NFL: Eagles' Westbrook tops today's injuries

Associated Press

Philadelphia's two most critical offensive players were hurt in a win over Pittsburgh, which also had its quarterback dinged.

Donovan McNabb returned from a rough hit, but do-everything star Brian Westbrook strained his right ankle and didn't return.

The All-Pro running back appeared to get hurt while hurdling a teammate on a 2-yard run. Coach Andy Reid said X-rays showed the ankle wasn't broken, but Westbrook will have an MRI on Monday.

Westbrook did not speak with reporters but was on crutches in the locker room after the game.

One play before Westbrook got hurt in the Eagles' 15-6 win over Pittsburgh, McNabb was visibly shaken up after getting sacked. He played the rest of the half and took a hard hit to the chest late in the second quarter. McNabb stayed in the locker room after the half, but returned during Philadelphia's second series in the third quarter.

Backup Kevin Kolb started the second half and was intercepted by Troy Polamalu on his first pass, which was deflected. The Steelers took over at the Eagles 49, but went nowhere.

McNabb got a nice ovation when he returned to the sideline, and he replaced Kolb after the second-year pro completed two straight passes.

Roethlisberger hurt his throwing hand when he was sacked by Brian Dawkins, fumbling inside the 20.

He was replaced by Byron Leftwich when the Steelers got the ball with just over 2 minutes left. Coach Mike Tomlin said X-rays on Roethlisberger's hand were negative and he's expected to play next week.

There was a scary moment in Baltimore, when Ravens safety Dawan Landry went down after taking a knee to the helmet during the second quarter of a 28-10 win over Cleveland.

Landry was hurt trying to tackle Jamal Lewis, whose knee hit Landry. The defensive back was motionless for several minutes before being taken from the field with the facemask removed from his helmet and his head immobilized.

He never lost consciousness and had movement in all his extremities, Ravens orthopedist Leigh Ann Curl said. The third-year safety was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma unit for X-rays and a CT scan.

"Everything is normal," Ravens spokesman Kevin Byrne said.

Browns linebacker Shantee Orr also left the game. He sustained a concussion in the third quarter and did not return.

Detroit lost QB Jon Kitna late in the game to a sprained knee. He hobbled off the field after the 49ers' Parys Haralson sacked him with 1:50 to play, and Detroit didn't immediately know how long he might be out. Lions guard Stephen Peterman broke his hand.

Raiders defensive tackle Gerard Warren did not return to Oakland's 24-23 loss in Buffalo after hurting his neck in the second half.

In Chicago, Bears Pro Bowl kick returner Devin Hester was sidelined by a rib injury and Tampa Bay receiver Joey Galloway was out because of a sprained foot.

The Colts lost right guard Dan Federkeil in the first half with a shoulder injury and cornerback Marlin Jackson (rib injury) in the second half of a 23-21 loss to Jacksonville.

The Jaguars lost receiver Dennis Northcutt in the first half with a leg strain and safety Reggie Nelson with a bruised knee in the third quarter.

Washington tackle Stephon Heyer sprained his left shoulder in the Redskins' 24-17 win over Arizona.
