Chaminade volleyball edges HPU

Vanja Radanovic hammered a match-high 21 kills as Chaminade defeated Hawai'i Pacific, 25-15, 21-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-11, last night in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball opener before a crowd of 670 at Blaisdell Arena.
Trina Kauliakamoa added 14 kills and 13 digs, Courtney Lorusso had 11 kills and 20 digs, and Chauntelle Maduli contributed 26 digs for the Silverswords (5-5).
Julia Gruszecka led the Sea Warriors (2-8) with 16 kills and 14 digs. Natasha Bell added 15 kills and 10 digs, Keily Balanay had 15 kills, Antje Buskies pitched in 11 kills, Tricia Yoshimura contributed 28 digs and Kelly Keating added 52 assists for HPU.

HILO'S SEBEN HONORED
Hawai'i-Hilo middle blocker Fabiane Seben has been selected the Pacific West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
Seben, a junior from Caxias do Sul, Brazil, was named MVP of the Montana State-Billings Tournament last week.
Seben hit .303 in six matches with 69 kills, a league-leading 13 service aces and a 1.32 blocks per game average.

UH WOMEN IN 13TH
The University of Hawai'i women's golf team opened with a 22-over-par 314 yesterday to tie for 13th in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at Albuquerque, N.M.
Pepperdine, ranked eighth in preseason national rankings, leads the 16-team field with even-par 292. New Mexico (294) is second and Wyoming (297) third.
Senior Carolina Perez led the Rainbow Wahine with a 3-over-par 76. Pepperdine's Jayvie Agojo and Colorado State's Kasey Claussen share the individual lead at 2-under 71.
The 54-hole tournament continues today.
BOXING
BOXING AT PALOLO
Daly Tipoti of Kawano Boxing Club will meet Dustin Dosher of Kalakaua Boxing Club tomorrow in the main event of a boxing show at the Palolo Gym.
Seven bouts are scheduled, starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $10.
