MLB: Atlanta's Smoltz will be postseason analyst for TBS

By Mason Levinson
Bloomberg News

John Smoltz, who has won more games in the postseason than anyone in Major League Baseball history, will be in the broadcast booth instead of on the pitching diamond this October.

The 41-year-old, who has played his entire major-league career for the Atlanta Braves and made 40 postseason appearances, will be an analyst for TBS during its coverage of baseball's four division series that begin Oct. 1, the network said in a news release.

Smoltz underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in May and may not be able to pitch again next season. The Braves are 67-85 with 10 games remaining.

Smoltz, who has a 15-4 postseason record with four saves, was an in-studio guest analyst during the 2007 postseason on TBS and covered select games on Peachtree TV while recovering from the injury.

He'll join analysts Ron Darling, Buck Martinez, Tony Gwynn, Joe Simpson and Harold Reynolds for game broadcasts, while Chip Caray, Dick Stockton, Don Orsillo and Brian Anderson will handle play-by-play duties, the Network said.
