Pacific gets past UH in soccer

Angelica Figueroa scored twice in the second half to lead Pacific to a 2-1 victory over Hawai'i in a women's soccer match at the Pacific Fall Tournament in Stockton, Calif., yesterday.
Ambree Ako gave the Rainbow Wahine a 1-0 lead when she scored off an assist from Taryn Fukuroku at the 52:13 mark.
Figueroa, a freshman, tied the game at 1-1 on a penalty kick at 60:57 and scored the game-winner unassisted at 67:19.
Pacific recorded 16 shots with eight on goal, while UH took five shots with two on goal.
Ako's goal was her fourth of the season and Fukuroku's assist was her third.
Senior goalkeeper Kori Lu played the full 90 minutes in net, recording six saves.
The win improves the Tigers to 3-3-0 this season, while Hawai'i dips to 1-3-1.
Hawai'i will next face San Francisco tomorrow at 7 a.m., Hawai'i time, in its final match of the tournament.
ORTIZ, GARCIA LIFT HILO MEN OVER CHAMINADE
Nyle Ortiz and Omar Garcia each scored as the University of Hawai'i-Hilo beat Chaminade, 2-0, yesterday in a men's soccer match at the Waipi'o Soccer Complex.
The Vulcans improved to 4-1, while the Silverswords dropped to 0-4.

UH-HILO WOMEN ROLL TO PAIR OF VICTORIES
The University of Hawai'i-Hilo women's volleyball team rolled to a pair of three-set victories yesterday on the opening day of the Montana State University-Billings Invitational in Billings, Mont.
The Vulcans (9-2) beat the University of Mary, 25-10, 25-10, 25-18 in their opener, and then dispatched Alaska Fairbanks, 25-13, 25-22, 25-23, in their second match.
"It's just nice to get those under the belt," UH-Hilo coach Bruce Atkinson said. "Considering we're tired and a little beat up, I'm very pleased with the team's progress."
Against Mary, Josimara Pinheiro led the Vulcans with 12 kills and Fabiane Seben added 10.
Against the Nanooks, Seben led the Vulcans with 14 kills, while Pinheiro added 12.
"Our timing is getting better," Atkinson said. "Our defenders are beginning to understand their roles."
