Flags around Hawai'i and across the nation will fly at half-staff today on the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann and members of the Honolulu police, fire and emergency medical services will participate in a remembrance ceremony Downtown at noon today at Bishop Square's Tamarind Park.

Gov. Linda Lingle ordered that flags be flown at half-staff at all state and county buildings. Flags on federal buildings will also be flown at half-staff.

The U.S. Congress passed a measure creating Patriot Day about three months after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and the crash of United Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pa., on Sept. 11, 2001.

4 KEIKI RESCUED FROM LOCKED CAR

Four toddlers, ages 1 to 3, were rescued from a locked vehicle yesterday at a Kewai Place home in Makakilo and taken to a hospital.

Two girls were transported in serious condition and a set of twins in stable condition, said city Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

The incident was reported about 3:45 p.m.

3 MEN ARRESTED IN BEATING, ROBBERY

Police have arrested three men on suspicion of beating and robbing a man last month on North Kukui Street.

The suspects, ages 28, 19, and 18, were arrested Tuesday for investigation of first-degree robbery. A fourth man, 22, is still at large.

The alleged attack on a 23-year-old man took place Aug. 29 at 11:30 p.m.

The victim told police he was struck from behind while walking to his cousin's house. While on the ground, he said, the men kicked him, hit him with a stick and a baseball bat and stole personal items from him.

POOL, OFFICES TO CLOSE EARLY

Sakamoto Pool and Maui County offices housed in the War Memorial Gym complex in Wailuku will be closed at 3 p.m. Oct. 2 and 3 to accommodate the County Fair, the mayor's office announced yesterday. Sakamoto Pool also will be closed all day Oct. 4 and 5.
