A 38-year-old Schofield Barracks soldier has been indicted on an attempted murder charge for allegedly bludgeoning his wife in the head with a hammer in their 'Ewa Beach home.
Lincoln Phillips is being held in lieu of $350,000 bail. He had been scheduled for transfer to Texas in 30 days.
Prosecutors said the victim, Tara Phillips, suffered "multiple depressed skull fractures and massive brain injuries" as a result of the attack and "there is uncertainty as to whether she will survive."
She is being treated at The Queen's Medical Center and is in extremely critical condition.
The assault occurred in the early morning hours Sept. 3 at the Phillips' Kai'oli St. apartment.
The couple's two teenage sons were asleep in the home at the time.
Neighbors said they heard the couple arguing on Sept. 1 and again on Sept. 3, according to police reports.
Witnesses said they heard "a loud thumping noise coming from the upstairs portion" of the home about 3:30 a.m. Sept. 3
