Former Oahu Plantation manager William Balfour, Arakawa's Store icon Goro Arakawa and World War II veteran and educator Domingo Los Banos will be honored by Hawaii's Plantation Village at a banquet Sept. 20 at the Willows Restaurant in Mo'ili'ili.
The three are the first to receive the village's new Plantation Legacy Awards, designed to recognize those who have demonstrated "a commitment to honor and perpetuate the legacy of Hawai'i's sugar plantation communities."
Cost is $100 per person. Half and whole tables are also available at $800. Deadline to register is Friday. Call 677-0110 for details.
The event is also a fundraiser for the village, a nonprofit, living-history museum and ethno-botanical garden on a 50-acre site on Waipahu Street near the O'ahu Sugar Mill site.
The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar and silent auction. The Plantation Legacy Awards program, dinner and entertainment start at 6.
