A 35-year-old woman, beaten repeatedly on the head with a hammer, remained in "extremely critical condition" at The Queen's Medical Center, according to police.
Tara Phillips was found in the upstairs bedroom of her home at 91-2006 Kai'oli St., Unit 5004, in 'Ewa Beach on Sept. 3 at 3:50 a.m.
Her 38-year-old husband, Lincoln Phillips, is charged with attempted second-degree murder and is being held in lieu of $350,000 bail. The charge will be amended to second-degree murder if the woman dies.
Phillips made his initial appearance at District Court yesterday.
According to an affidavit filed in court, police found a hammer and clothing belonging to the suspect, with red substance resembling blood on each, at the scene.
Witnesses heard the couple arguing on Sept. 1 and again Sept. 3. In the Sept. 3 argument, which was heard at 3:30 a.m., the witness also heard a "loud thumping sound coming from the upstairs portion" of the Lincoln home, the document stated.
