UH soccer wins first of season

Kelli-Anne Chang scored in the 103rd minute to lift the University of Hawai'i women's soccer team to a 4-3 victory over Drake yesterday in the New Mexico Classic at Albuquerque, N.M.
Chang's goal, from the top of the box, ended the match in sudden-death overtime and helped UH improve to 1-2-0.
Taryn Fukuroku, Nicole Mikula and Chelsea Deptula also scored for UH.
Drake fell to 0-4-0.
GOLF
CHAN PREVAILS
'Iolani School freshman Lorens Chan shot a final-round 73 yesterday to win the Barbers Point Invitational by one stroke.
Chan, 14, shot a 54-hole total of 213. Matthew Ma (72—215) was second, and Frank Marcus (80—216) and Brandon Kop (68—216) shared third.
John Matias (71—224) won A flight and 11-year-old Philip Delisi (80—237) won B flight.
MAUI'S TING ADVANCES
Desiree Ting, of Wailuku, Maui, shot an 8-over-par 80 yesterday but advanced to match play at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Ting shot 10-over 154 to tie for 28th in the qualifying rounds in the USGA event for amateurs 25 and older.
ALOHA PROS TEE OFF
The Aloha Section PGA will hold its Stroke Play Championship and Aloha PGA Professional Championship at Princeville's Makai Lakes and Woods courses, beginning today. Golfers tee off at 7 a.m. through Wednesday.
Kevin Hayashi won both titles last year.
The Stroke Play Championship is a 54-hole event and the third major of the year. It has a $12,800 purse. The first 36 holes are qualifying scores for the Professional Championship, with the top three advancing to next year's 42nd PGA Professional National Championship.
SURFING
BROWN TRIUMPHS
Casey Brown of Kailua, Kona, won the inaugural Vans El Ponto Loco men's surfing contest Saturday.
The final day was run in 1- to 3-foot waves at Ponto Beach off Carlsbad, Calif.
Brown rallied in the final to overtake California surfers Dillon Perillo and Jason Collins.
The contest was part of surfing's World Qualifying Series.
