'Ewa Beach man charged in attack

A 38-year-old 'Ewa Beach man has been charged with attacking his wife, causing critical head injuries.

Lincoln Phillips was arrested Friday and charged Saturday with attempted second-degree murder. He was being held in lieu of $350,000 bail pending his initial appearance today in District Court.

Phillips called police at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday and reported finding his wife, 36, with critical head injuries in their home. A weapon was found in the home, police said.


SWIMMER'S BODY FOUND OFF LA'IE

The body of a 23-year-old man was recovered yesterday from waters off Malaekahana State Recreation Park in La'ie.

City Emergency Medical Services personnel pronounced the man dead at 4 p.m., according to department spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

Fire, Ocean Safety and Navy units had been searching for the missing swimmer since about 12:20 p.m.

Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said the man was with a group swimming to Moku'auia (Goat Island) at about 9 a.m. when he decided to turn back.

An autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of death.


KONA MAN HELD IN ALI'I DRIVE KILLING

Big Island police yesterday arrested a Kailua, Kona, man as a suspect in the stabbing death of an 85-year-old man, whose body was found at a home on Ali'i Drive in North Kona.

Police identified the victim as John M. Scott. Investigators said he was stabbed once in the upper torso. Scott's body was discovered at 6:30 a.m., police said.

The suspect, 51, was being held at the Kona police station cellblock pending charges.


MAN, 27, CRITICAL AFTER POOL RESCUE

A 27-year-old man was taken to the Kona Hospital in critical condition Saturday after friends found him at the bottom of a swimming pool.

Firefighters on the Big Island said friends of the man performed CPR until medical personnel arrived.

The accident was reported at 6:42 p.m. at Jack's Diving Locker, 75-5813 Ali'i Drive.


MISSING ELDER SOUGHT ON TRAIL

Fire rescue specialists and police were searching the Waimanu Ditch Trail yesterday for a missing 77-year-old man, who was sighted Saturday by a pig hunter.

Yesterday's search for Jon Parsons started at about 7 a.m.

Parsons left a friend's home on Kaonohi Street on Thursday at 10 a.m. and intended to go hiking on the trail on Onikiniki Place in upper Pearl City.
