Hawaii DII teams go 0-8 on road

Gabriela Bulawczyk had 10 kills as Cal State-Los Angeles beat No. 24 Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15, in the Triton Invitational yesterday at La Jolla, Calif.
Losaline Faka'osi had eight kills to lead the Seasiders, while Agnes Tuilevuka and Tanza Buroker each added seven.
Cal State-L.A. improved to 5-0.
In BYU-Hawai'i's second match, Rebecca Bailey had 19 kills and Kimberly Carpenter added 15 as No. 17 UC San Diego beat the Seasiders, 16-25, 25-18, 25-23, 27-25.
UC San Diego improved to 5-1.
LeeAnn Mapu had 13 kills with no errors in 16 attempts for an .812 hitting percentage, which set a school record. She also had 34 assists and 13 digs for her first career triple-double.
Ane Vea added 11 kills in 19 attempts for BYU-Hawai'i (3-4).
In other matches involving Hawai'i teams yesterday:
At Ellensburg, Wash., Malia Ibarra and Nicole Ostlund each had 11 kills as St. Martin's (Wash.) defeated the Sea Warriors, 25-20, 26-24, 15-25, 25-19, in the Central Washington Invitational.
Julia Gruszecka had nine kills to lead Hawai'i Pacific.
Saint Martin's improved to 2-2.
In HPU's second match, Kristy Sather had 17 kills as Sonoma State (Calif.) beat the Sea Warriors, 24-26, 25-8, 25-13, 25-19.
Gruszecka, Kelly Balanay and Aimee Tresierra each had seven kills for HPU (1-5).
Sonoma State improved to 5-1.
At Ellensburg, Wash., Cammy Draginis had 15 kills as Northwest Nazarene (Idaho) beat Chaminade, 15-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17, 15-9, in the Central Washington Invitational.
Trina Kauliakamoa had 13 kills and 17 digs, and Courtney Lorusso had 13 kills and 16 digs for Chaminade, which was out-blocked 13-3.
Northwest Nazarene improved to 3-2.
In Chaminade's second match of the day, Erin Norris had 11 kills in Central Washington's 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 victory.
Kauliakamoa had 16 kills for Chaminade.
Central Washington improved to 6-1; Chaminade dropped to 1-5.
At Denver, No. 10 Florida Southern beat the Vulcans, 25-12, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, and No. 21 Chico State also beat UH-Hilo, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19, at the Metropolitan State College Invitational.
"We definitely showed we could compete with them," Hilo coach Bruce Atkinson said. "We got beat in the long transitional rallies which we had a lot of in both matches."

JUNIOR EVENT AT POIPU
Thirty of Hawai'i's best junior golfers will play in the inaugural Mixed Team Championship this weekend at Poipu Bay Golf Course on Kaua'i.
Players go out at 11 a.m. today and 7 a.m. tomorrow.
Format for the Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association event will be similar to Ryder Cup and is designed to prepare the players for the second USA Hawai'i-Japan Junior Cup in November at Waikoloa. Each two-person team will be made up of a girl and boy from the 13 to 18 age divisions.
The first round will be four-fall stroke play and the second foursome stroke play.
Hawai'i players include: Kristina Merkle, Anna Jang, Bradley Shigezawa, Robert Greenleaf, Kelli and Cory Oride, Marissa Chow, David Fink, Henry Park, Britney Yada and Cassy Isagawa.
