160 Kobayashi campaign signs stolen from Waimanalo lawns

Advertiser Staff Writer

Honolulu police are investigating the reported theft of 160 Ann Kobayashi campaign signs worth $1,800 that disappeared from the lawns of private homes in Waimanalo this week.

On Tuesday morning, supporters of Kobayashi's mayoral campaign noticed that the signs had disappeared from their yards.

Campaign organizers have given police a list of the homes that had agreed to display the signs.

The yard signs were made by volunteers and cost $10 to produce. The two banners that were stolen cost $95 each.

"They were made by volunteers and put up by volunteers. I feel badly because they worked so hard," said Kobayashi. "We're going to keep our heads up and move forward. This only makes us want to work harder."

Honolulu police have opened a second-degree theft case in connection with the missing signs.

Second-degree theft is a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
