Ways to reduce sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS: Always put babies to sleep on their backs. Never smoke around a baby. Keep stuffed animals and loose bedding, such as blankets and pillows, out of the crib. Don't use a bumper, or use one that is too firm to mold around a baby's face. Give the baby a pacifier, as long as the baby is older than 2 weeks and already breastfeeding.

TRIBUTE CONCERT

FRIENDS CELEBRATE NANCY BANNICK

A "Nancy Bannick Tribute Concert," set for 8 p.m. Nov. 17 at Blaisdell Concert Hall, will celebrate the memory of the late arts supporter and cultural booster. Bannick, who died Feb. 19 at age 81, was also an author and an advocate to preserve the heritage of old Chinatown, the Waikiki Natatorium and Kapi'olani Park. The concert in her honor will feature the Hawai'i Youth Opera Chorus, the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and musicians J. Scott Janusch, oboist, and Beebe Freitas, pianist. Admission is free, but call 596-7858 for tickets.
