Mason Ho wins
Mason Ho of Sunset Beach won the Oakley Pro Junior ASP North America Championships yesterday at California.
The final day of the contest was run in 4- to 6-foot waves at Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz, Calif.
Ho was in near-perfect form in the final, receiving a two-wave score of 19.10 (out of 20).
"It just feels good to know that hard work pays off," said Ho, 20. "The reward is great and it's just cool to win one."
The contest was part of the Macy's California Trifecta Surf Series. Sebastian Zietz of Kaua'i was the overall series champion.
The series was for surfers age 21 and younger.
Ho and Zietz are expected to return to Hawai'i this week to compete in the Xcel Pro contest at Sunset Beach.
