CaneFires roll over Sharks, 8-2

Miles Durham went 2 for 5, scored three times and drove in two runs to lead the West Oahu CaneFires to an 8-2 victory over the Honolulu Sharks last night at Hans L'Orange Park in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game.
Cyle Hankerd went 2 for 3 with a double and a triple and scored once for the CaneFires as they improved to 11-10.
Kyle Bloom (2-0) picked up the win for West Oahu, throwing five innings of one-hit ball. He struck out eight and walked two. Cliff Flagello pitched 1 1/3 innings for his third save of the year.
Honolulu is 13-8.
At Les Murakami Stadium, Todd Frazier went 3 for 5 with a double and a triple and drove in three runs as the Waikiki BeachBoys (10-11) beat the North Shore Honu (8-13), 10-3.
Jeremy Bleich (2-1) gave up five hits through seven innings. He struck out eight while walking one. He gave up two runs, both earned.

HAMAMOTO FAILS TO ADVANCE AT Q-SCHOOL
Hilo's Jarett Hamamoto, a two-time state high school champion and former University of Hawai'i golfer, failed to advance out of the PGA Tour Qualifying School's first stage yesterday.
Hamamoto, playing at Dayton Valley Country Club in Nevada, closed with a 1-under-par 71 but finished tied for 57th. The top 23 players and ties advanced to the second stage. Hamamoto opened with rounds of 76-76-73 and finished with a 296 total.
Marc Lawless was Dayton's medalist, at 68-266.
VOLLEYBALL
HPU SWEEPS TO WIN OVER GRAND CANYON
Shawntell Jones and Natasha Bell each had eight kills as Hawai'i Pacific swept to a 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 PacWest victory over Grand Canyon last night at St. Andrew's Priory.
Hawai'i Pacific is 9-11 overall, 6-4 in conference. Grand Canyon is 13-11, 6-4.
