Miami Dolphins receiver Davone Bess, a former University of Hawai'i slotback, scored his first NFL touchdown on a 7-yard reception with 4:56 left in a 27-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Bess' reception from Chad Pennington cut the Dolphins' deficit to 20-13.

"I'd trade the touchdown for a win any given day," Bess, an undrafted rookie, said on the team's Web site. "It's always good to get in the end zone, especially your first NFL touchdown. Like I said, it's kind of sour now after losing, so hopefully we can get better."

Bess finished with two receptions for 12 yards and two punt returns for an average of 5.0 yards.

VETERANS SUING LEAGUE

Fans of the popular "Madden NFL" video game by Electronic Arts Inc. can play vintage matchups such as the 1967 Green Bay Packers against the 1971 Dallas Cowboys.

Just don't look for either team's dominant left cornerback: Hall of Famer Herb Adderley, who played for both Super Bowl champions. There is only an anonymous video game figure with Adderley's weight and height displayed at left cornerback on each defense.

That did not sit well with Adderley, so he sued. His class action lawsuit on behalf of more than 2,000 retired players is set to start today in federal court in San Francisco, with the retirees accusing the NFL Players Association of cheating them out of millions of dollars in royalties from video games, trading cards and others sports products.

They contend that the union actively sought to cut them out of licensing deals so active players could receive bigger royalty payments.

BUSH INJURES KNEE

New Orleans running back Reggie Bush will not travel with the Saints to London following yesterday's loss to Carolina, instead heading to Alabama to have his injured left knee examined.

Bush is expected to see Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., coach Sean Payton said. The Saints believe Bush has injured the meniscus in his left knee and won't be able to play San Diego in Wembley Stadium next week.

Bush injured his left knee on a punt return late in the first half.

Bengals: A jolting block by Pittsburgh receiver Hines Ward broke the jaw of Cincinnati rookie linebacker Keith Rivers, likely ending his season. Ward knocked Rivers down with a straight-up hit yesterday on the fourth play of the game.

Chiefs: Kansas City quarterback Brodie Croyle sprained his left knee against Tennessee yesterday, his first game back since separating his shoulder in the season opener. Coach Herm Edwards said Croyle's injury would end his season.

Chicago: Chicago kick returner and wide receiver Devin Hester injured a quadriceps muscle in the third quarter yesterday against Minnesota and had to leave the game.
