A 29-year-old man from Washington who became lost while trying to return to his vehicle after hiking yesterday was located by the Big Island fire department's Chopper 1, one or two miles above his vehicle and flown back to the location of his vehicle.

No medical care was needed.

Firefighters were called to the search 1.3 miles mauka of Hwy 19 near Ookala at 7:47 a.m. yesterday. The search ended at 8:46 a.m.
