FITNESS PROFILE | BUZZY KERBOX
A natural fit

It's probably not fair to average guys that Buzzy Kerbox looks as good as he does at 52, but give the man his due — he works out religiously and let's not forget, he was both a competitive pro surfer and a Ralph Lauren Polo model for years.
One of the pioneers of tow-in surfing, Kerbox, coaches surfers and still rides some of the largest waves in the world every winter near his home on Maui. He stays in shape with long-distance standup paddling and a regular morning exercise routine that includes running and calisthenics. He considers the 45-minute routine — push-ups, pull-ups, dips, running and more — an essential part of his fitness.
Kerbox, who started working out regularly when he was in his early 20s when he was on the world pro surfing tour, likes the natural features at Baldwin Beach Park.
"I have a beach workout," Kerbox said. "It is probably a half-mile beach and I run the beach. There are a couple of places where I stop and do pull-ups and dips and push-ups. At the end of the beach, I do lunges and then on the way back, there is a really steep hill, so I go three times up the steep hill."
Kerbox, who still models and is a motivational speaker, varies his routine to suit the results he's looking for, but topping the list is the way it makes him feel. Remember, he's a surfer at heart.
"Try to find a routine that is fun to do somehow," he said. "I don't like to go to the gym and work out. Some people like that. I love to be outside."
