Seatbelt violation leads to stolen vehicle arrests

Advertiser Staff

Three men were arrested this afternoon in a vehicle that had been reported stolen after a police officer observed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and ran the vehicle's license plates.

The incident happened shortly after noon at Leilehua Golf Course Road and Kamehameha Highway when a patrol officer observed a maroon Mazda pickup driving around the park-and-ride area.

When the officer saw the driver of the pickup wasn't wearing a seatbelt, he ran the license plate and discovered it was an outstanding stolen vehicle, police said.

The officer stopped the pickup and arrested the 43-year-old driver and two passengers, 33- and 30-year-old males, on suspicion of Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle and Unauthorized Entry of Motor Vehicle.
